Alkannin, A Red Food Dye

Alkanet is the common name for several related plants in the borage family. Alkanna tinctoria is the name of the plant most commonly called alkanet. It is also called dyer’s bugloss and is a source of red dye. Alkannin is the name of the food colouring made from Alkanent.
