• 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tbsp cold water


  1. Blend or sift together flour, sugar, and salt.
  2. Add shortening.  Mash with a fork until you have small pebble size pieces.
  3. Add egg and water.  Stir lightly with the fork until you have a soft dough.
  4. Move the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead gently 6 or 7 times.
  5. Refrigerate until you are ready to roll it out for pies or tarts.
